My Background and Career

I have a degree in Economics and Business Science from the Complutense University of Madrid and a diploma in Economics of the European Union from the London School of Economics. I am also Group Executive Chairman Seguriber-Umano founded in 1989 and focused on offering control, security and auxiliary services with human resources and advanced solutions of technology. I employ around 6000 people. I am also the President of Secot, a non-profit association that brings together senior professionals who work in the service of entrepreneurs to start and rescue companies, offering their experience and knowledge.
I am President of the Business Circle, an organisation which has as its main goal the study, dissemination and promotion of the role of free enterprise in the context of the market economy. I am also the independent director of INDRA AND OHL.

My Experience

Economic problems: The beginnings are always hard because you have lots of good intentions and ideas and limited capital to carry them out. Hiring a good team is expensive and we hadn’t any resources.

Family problems: When you have to take time away from your family and dedicate more hours in the office it is difficult.

Personal problems: This dimension has barely existed until when my children have become more independent.

Social problems: The security sector has always been under the domain of men. That allowed me to be different and that people heard me closely. Keys for success: The support of my husband who encouraged me to be an entrepreneur and always stood by me in times of weakness has been very significant. I received an open education, demanding and cosmopolitan. Several years abroad in boarding schools allowed me to learn how to live with other cultures and learn more than one language. I have an outgoing and curious perseverance that allows me to move forward without wearing myself out. There has been always a “guardian angel” advising me when I didn’t know which way to go. I’ve had many mentors. Synergy with other entrepreneurs helped me apply the advice of their experiences to some issues that were arising. Friends who I really appreciate effectively and emotionally have always been there. My inspirations: They mainly have been my bosses and some of my friends, especially a co-worker and now a friend, and also my co-directives of Aragon.

My Skills

Competences: Personal development through work, teamwork, ability to plan and organize, solving problems, and humility to ask for advice.

Qualities: Active, talkative, persistent, optimistic, trusting, flexible, quick, self-confident, and organized.

Hints & Tips

I apply many proverbs/sayings to my everyday life situations. One I like the most is that of William George Ward: “The pessimist complains about the wind, the optimist expects it to change and the realist adjusts the sails”.
All the people who have gone through my life or who have accompanied me sometimes in my career have contributed something. Besides, I’ve come from an industrial family in which taking risks and starting new projects is a constant.
To those women who want to start a new business I would say that they have to struggle to achieve their objectives, to be constant, to relate with other entrepreneurs and to attend seminars, conferences, workshops…nowadays networking and co-working are very important. They have to mix with men; they have to be inclusive, nor exclusive.
There is nothing more satisfying than transforming an idea into a play. And an entrepreneur is exactly that. Then, transforming the play in a company, from a small organisation, seeing how to solve issues of growth, managing the complex world of people, seeing how they are all involved.
It is also important to know how to put limits to disconnect. Setting up a company is very absorbent and sometimes you are isolated from the rest of the world.
