NAME: Maria Elena de Felipe Lehtonen
BACKGROUND: Degree in Labour Law
POSITION:Co-Founder and partner
My Background and Career
After graduating as specialist lawyer in Enterprise Labor Law, I acted as attorney for Social Jurisdiction in the different Labor Courts in Spain.
In 1991 I was a founding partner of FES CONSULTING EMPRESARIAL, S.L, and in 2011 I was co-founder of the first gender consultancy company, working as Counselor and Mediator in the Labor Court of Catalonia. (2011).
For 8 years, I have been the president of the ACEE Catalonian Association of Businesswomen and Executives, and since 2010, I am co-president in the Managing Board.
I also was founder president of the FAEC, Federation of Associations of Catalonian enterprises in 2004, and I am vice-president of the FEPIME-Catalonia (Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises) since 2011. From 2010 until 2012, I was the Treasurer in ANIMA (Association for entrepreneurial investments in the Mediterranean).
In 2002 I funded AFAEMME (Association of Federations and Association in the Mediterranean), becoming president of this organization, whose members are 40 entrepreneurial associations from 21 countries in the Mediterranean.
As an expert in gender and entrepreneurial-related issues, I was a pioneer in expounding the conclusions of an entrepreneurial project about gender in the European Parliament in 2006.
I am the only Spanish representative in the European Commission in its net of Gender Equality about women’s position in politics and economics in Brussels since 2008.
I have found it difficult to reconcile family and work, having heart and head in two places at a time. My parents were the ones who supported this new entrepreneurial initiative, as no one from my environment worked in something related to law or to enterprise.
Competences: I consider myself to have a great entrepreneurial spirit.
Qualities: among my qualities, I learn and apply new knowledge easily, and I find it easy to share and deliver information. I like cooperating with other people when I’m working, and in case of trouble I consider myself a good mediator.
I have no problem in making decisions and in working with a team. I consider myself independent, persistent, innovative and trusting. Moreover I think that promptness, the capacity of synthesise, and organisation, are some of my better qualities.
