E’ un’ ingegnere, ma soprattutto è la prima astronauta italiana che ha fatto parte dell’Agenzia Spaziale Europea. Detiene il record europeo e il record femminile di permanenza nello spazio in un singolo volo (199 giorni).

She holds a degree in Engineering, but above all she is the first Italian astronaut who joined the European Space Agency. As a result of her 199 day long stay in space, she holds two records: one for the longest time a female astronaut has spent in space and another one for the the longest time a European astronaut has spent in space (199 days).

 

Johanna Mukoki

Johanna Mukoki is an accountant and B.Comm graduate from Rhodes University. She is the co-founder of Travel with Flair, a company she started 18 years ago with her two partners. She started with only 3 employees and one office in Pretoria. Currently her company employs 800 staff country wide and they have offices in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.
She is the first person from the African continent to sit on the Global Tourism Board (ACTE) – Association of Corporate Travel Executives where she represented the Middle East and Africa. ACTE has members in over 86 countries and the membership includes senior executives involved in the purchase and supply of travel with 200 billion Euros business travel spent from Fortune 500 companies.

Johanna has been blessed with many business accolades which include “Most Influential Woman in Business and Government in Tourism” and the Ernst & Young Emerging World Entrepreneur of the Year. Recently she has been awarded with a certificate for Africa’s Most Influential Women in Business – July 2014. She has also been awarded with an Exceptional Commitment Award from the ASATA Diners Club Awards.

She is also a board member of the Salvation Army and assists them with fundraising for their children shelters.

More female managers, more successful businesses

We are far away from the goal of 40 percent of women in leading positions. Awareness of the benefits of gender-balanced leadership is growing.

Ženske se bolj poglobijo v sočloveka in to, kar dejansko potrebujejo od znanj za uspešno prihodnost podjetja, pravi Ana Laura Rednak, izvršna direktorica v podjetju Plastika Skaza.
 
Različne raziskave potrjujejo, da se podjetjem splača imeti po spolu uravnoteženo vodstvo. Študija MIT (2014) je ugotovila, da dosegajo vodstva, ki vključujejo tako moške kot ženske, za 41 % višje dobičke kot enospolna vodstva. Delnice podjetij z vsaj eno žensko med vodstvom so imele za kar 26 odstotkov višjo vrednost od podjetij brez žensk na vodilnih položajih, kaže študija Credit Suisse (2012). Po študiji Catalysta znajo podjetja, ki imajo po spolu uravnoteženo vodstvo, bolje uporabiti talente v podjetju, imajo večji ugled v družbi, večji vpliv na trg in višjo stopnjo inovativnosti.

Scientists are not quite accustomed to entrepreneurship. A career normally will be find in jobs at universities or in R&D departments in private companies or NGO’s. Although, there are examples of women managing their own science based business.
Researchers In Science for Equality (RISE, the network of female beta scientists in Leiden the Netherlands) and TheNextWomen (a network of successful female entrepreneurs) organised together a workshop about entrepreneurship based on science. 30 women, most students, were present of the Bio Science Park and the Technical Universities Leiden, Delft and Rotterdam.
